A tú tài known as “cụ Hàn Cống”, from the village of Mỹ Hoà (today thôn Trung Mỹ, xã An Hoà Thịnh, Hương Sơn). Selected by examination under the reign of Duy Tân, he was charged by the Huế court with compiling a comparative materia medica of Chinese and Vietnamese remedies — and given five to six months to finish it; he wrote its preface on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the first year of Khải Định. “Trung Việt dược tính hợp biên” (中越藥性合編) runs to sixteen quyển in chữ Nho, held at the Hán Nôm Research Institute under shelfmark A.2702/1 to /16; volume eight still bears the stamp of the École française d'Extrême-Orient library. He was assisted by a retired ngự y of the Thái y viện, the cử nhân Phan Văn Mễ, and his work validated by the Hàn lâm viện. Fifteenth generation, senior branch (chi trưởng); son of Đinh Nho Thiếp. Anniversary on the 26th of the ninth lunar month.
